GD Stove Fastfold Stainless Stove with pipe

The GD Stove Fastfold Stainless Stove is a foldable “fastfold” stove made out of stainless steel that looks very similar to Winnerwell’s fastfold models.

Fastfold stoves have several advantages over the classic stove. Fastfold stoves, for example, take up significantly less space than a conventional stove when folded while the weight is significantly reduced. It is now possible to carry the stove with you in a backpack over significantly longer distances than what customers used to do with a normal bulky and heavy stove.

In addition to the fact that the stove significantly increases the comfort and atmosphere of the tent, regardless of the ambient temperature, the stove also forms a natural base for cooking. You can easily make coffee on the stove or cook your food in the frying pan. In your warm tent you dry your wet clothes and boots and can start the next day’s adventure in a dry and comfortable state. A stove is also one of the absolute best ways to prevent condensation in humid tent climates.

The stove can also be used as a firebox if you don’t put the lid on – this gives you the opportunity to use the stove as a regular grill instead of burning on the ground, which protects sensitive environments. As a bonus, you get significantly better combustion in the stove compared to if you had fired on the ground.

Design

The GD Stove Fastfold Stainless Stove is assembled into a finished stove in a couple of minutes. The legs folds out and the walls of the stove are attached to each other with simple hook attachments. The roof part of the stove is attached in the same way. The chimney is mounted on the top of the box and in the attachment there is a built-in adjustable damper that you use to regulate how much flue gas is to be released from the stove. Next to the damper you will also find a spark arrestor in the form of a fine mesh net.

On the front of the stove you will find an adjustable air intake. The door has also been equipped with a small glass windows so you can easily keep an eye on the fire.

The chimney (which is also made of stainless steel) is of the roller type, similar to the chimneys of many other folding stoves. Basically, the chimney is an elongated sheet of steel that is rolled lengthwise to create a long pipe.

The chimney can also be replaced with a significantly lighter titanium version if necessary (use 3,125″ rings!).

Good to know

When using stoves in tents, it is necessary to have an understanding of the safety risks that stoves in tents entail. Make sure there are no flammable items near or under the stove and also make sure there is an opportunity for fresh air to enter your tent when the stove is burning. Your tent must have a hole / stove jack specially adapted for a hot chimney. All of our Luxe Outdoors and Seek Outside tents have such an opening, but there are many other tents that have their own chimney openings. It is always good to protect the ground under the stove from the heat, for example by placing a few sheets of aluminum foil under the stove. We also sell fireproof ground mats.

The first time you use your new stove, it needs to be “burned in”. In this way, the chimney assumes its final shape and becomes significantly easier to roll out and roll up. The first time you roll up the chimney, a little patience is required before it is rolled up.

Remember that the length of the chimney should be at least 30 cm higher than the highest point of the tent.

Make sure to clean (soot clean) both dampers, spark arrestor and the pipe after each use so that the parts do not soot again.

Sooner or later you will be hit by sparks on the tent fabric which will result in very small holes in the fabric. The amount of sparks can be significantly reduced by burning dry wood and preferably not spruce. If you suffer from spark holes on the canvas, this can be easily repaired with a small dab of seam sealer. We recommend Gear Aid Seam Grip WP for polyester tents and Gear Aid SIL for sil nylon tents. Please note that spark holes in the fabric are not covered by the warranty on the products.

In very strong winds, we recommend NOT using this type of stove, as there is a minimal risk that the chimney may bend and thus cause damage to the tent or, in the worst case, a fire.

How to roll the pipe the first time

ATTENTION! The first time you roll the chimney, be extra careful so that there are no dents on the pipe. Get the help of at least one person when rolling the barrel before first use. When the chimney is used for the first time, it is “burned in” and then assumes its final form. So it’s only the first time it’s a bit of a hassle to shape the barrel.
